April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month!
Hello my friends! I have been invited to speak at a workshop webinar by Hope Collaborative, and Riverside Family Services at the end of April. Joining me will be my sister advocates Donna Kshir and Lee Roberts. They have asked me to tell my story of what it was like growing up abused in a home full of domestic violence and dysfunction. Then Donna, Lee and myself will talk about why it's so important to have the conversation about stopping and preventing child abuse. Children are dying, and the Covid-19 pandemic has just made things worse. Join us at the webinar and do all you can to stop and prevent child abuse.
Join Donna Kshir and Lee Roberts as they interview AU4H Radio's Volunteer Program Coordinator Advocate, Author Laurie Ann Smith. This year marks a 10 Year Anniversary and Re-Launch of Laurie's books - A Life of Death: The Redemption, La Veta Juvies and One Child Abuse Survivor 2 Another-The Journey. All proceeds from Laurie's books go to fund programs to stop and prevent child abuse. Laurie Ann Smith is a popular online radio talk show host, 5 x published author and voice for those whose voices were silenced due to abuse; whose lives were destroyed by abuse. Her only hope is to promote public awareness and education to help stop the cycle of abuse, child abuse, and domestic violence. Her mission is to be "one more voice" among many to help stop child abuse and to make this world a better place for everyone.
Hello my friends! It has been a busy and productive start to 2021. I am so excited to announce that my books are now back where they belong, published under Northern Books. All proceeds will go to Advocates United for Humanity to help fund programs to help in stopping and preventing child abuse. I have always donated the money from the books because this makes me happy! I always wanted to see something good come from something so bad. Here is a link to a press release from AU4H Radio where I volunteer. Keep looking up my friends! Let's keep the hope alive!
I am excited about 2021! I am hopeful that our lives will begin to improve, and that things are going to start getting better for everyone around the world. Last year was intense, and even some of the lingering anxieties are still on the surface of all I can see in my world. I do have some great news! I resigned from my volunteer position with NAASCA.org last November, and then in December my two best friends and long time advocates, Donna Kshir and Lee Roberts asked if I wanted to return to Advocates United for Humanity as their Volunteer AU4H Radio Program Coordinator. Of course I jumped at the opportunity to work with my sisters again! We have worked together on numerous projects since 2009 and I am really looking forward to a new and exciting year ahead! Here is the link to the article that was shared on our website. I want to thank everyone for your support through the years. It means the world to me. I wish you a much better and a very blessed 2021!
I am the Alberta Ambassador for NAASCA.org, National Association of Adult Survivors of Child Abuse. I haven't been able to do much other than be an online presence due to Covid-19 and my own health issues that have been a problem since last fall. I have been able to do some online advocacy with NAASCA on our own SCAN Show, (Stop Child Abuse Now!) on Blog Talk Radio. We do 5 shows a week, Monday through Friday and feature Survivor-Professionals and Survivors sharing their own personal stories of surviving child abuse. I will be a returning guest this Friday, October 16th. We will be discussing the topic of Second-hand Domestic Violence and Child Abuse, Family Violence and all that goes along with it. I will be sharing some of my own coping strategies that I've used in my healing journey that have made a difference and worked for me. We are all different, and all at different places in our healing journey's so what works for me, may not work for you. I always remind my fellow survivors to just keep reaching out and never give up! We deserved so much better, we did not deserve to be abused. I hope you can join us on the show or you can always listen to the archive and many other archived shows that we have done. Wishing you all the best. Stay safe!!
Hello! With all that is happening in the world with the Covid-19 crisis, I just wanted to share a brief post about all that has been happening in my world lately. I have been dealing with several health issues since last fall, including skin cancer, severe arthritis that has been making it difficult for me to walk and extremely high blood pressure that was stroke level for months. I was in the middle of getting things taken care of when the Covid-19 crisis hit, so all of my care has been put on hold, which is understandable. These are trying times, and my heart goes out to anyone who has had to endure that dreadful virus-disease or who has lost a loved one to it. I have been staying as isolated as possible and this world-wide situation will impact us all in so many ways. It's during these times that we need to stay positive, reach out for help online or using the telephone if you can't get out and just know that we have to continue to be hopeful that things won't be as bleak as it looks right now. I'm keeping the hope and faith alive and I pray that this will all be over very soon. Take good care of yourselves and until next time!!
I thank all of my listener friends who have kept me company and listened to what I had to say for 10 years. It's time to sign off and say goodbye. I hope you will reach out and get the help you need and continue on your healing journey's as I will continue on mine. Remember, never give up looking for that hope, that help, that you so deserve.
Domestic Violence and Child Abuse - A Tribute Video to My Brothers is a vlog I recently did to honour my brothers who suffered horribly as children, being abused by our parents, and then went on to live such horrible lives as young adults. My brother Chesley was murdered at age 19, and my brother Rob committed suicide at age 33. My brother Howard committed suicide at age 35. My message is clear! No matter what you have been through, or what you are going through now, do not give up! Reach out and get the help you so deserve! Win this fight with me.
Tonight we will look at Positive Reinforcement, Self-Care, Coping Mechanisms, and Meditation for the day. Join me for a walk to healing, to wholeness, to learning how to care for ourselves. I am a survivor of child abuse, child sexual abuse, neglect and did not learn how to care for myself, how to cope, or how to change the learned toxic behaviours I was taught while growing up abused from birth. I had to begin learning all of these very important pieces to living a healthy lifestyle after I began my healing journey. I have been on my healing journey since May 22, 2007 and there are many times that I forget to do the things I need to do to self-care, nurture, and cope on a daily basis. Join me for a quick chat as I share with you what I'm using and working on for my own healing journey. What works for me, may not work for you, but I will share resources and information that you can take a look at and see if any of the information might be useful for you. Whatever you do, do NOT GIVE UP! Keep reaching out, keep looking for that help, that hope and stay alive! Win this fight with me! Walk with me toward complete and total restoration. This show is brought to you by CDAT Radio produced by Tony Angelo.
